Smoke free America is a renowned anti-smoking group dedicated to curb the practice of smoking. It is a non-profit organization which intends to hold back the practice of smoking as well as stimulate youth to stay away from it. This group was established in the year 1989 and since then has largely been a volunteer organization. The mission of this organization is to empower smokers to quit and motivate or inspire youth to stay tobacco free. How much time does it take to get hooked on cigarettes?Study conducted by this organization suggests that teenagers who smoke as few as 2 or 3 cigarettes a day become addicted in just two weeks.
Once hooked, they are unable to quit for approximately seventeen years. And annually, they will pay more than $1200 on tobacco products, to maintain their addiction. The primary aim of Smoke free America is to encourage teenagers to live smoke free life. The goal of this group is to help those suffering from tobacco addiction to stop successfully, making youth powerful to defend themselves against peer pressure, to prevent smoking at local, regional and national levels, and to fight against tobacco use.
Smoke free America helps people in quitting smoking. It emphasizes that if one has tried quitting before and had failed, do not lose hope and keep in mind that many ex-smokers have tried several times before being successful. It inspires people to view their failure to quit as part of the normal journey towards becoming a non-smoker. Statistics reveal that one in four Americans smoke cigarettes and millions are adversely affected by second hand smoke. This organization strives to educate people about the harmful effects of smoking and that smoking kills. It believes that- the more the people will know about the harmful effects of smoking, the more they will find ways to quit it!
The future plans of this organization are: - to execute programs to inspire physicians to take a proactive role with their smoking patients, and to ask them to quit; design educational materials regarding dangers of second hand smoke, harm of tobacco use, cigarette taxes, and current tobacco laws; implement an anti-smoking campaign for colleges and universities; plan public service announcements (PSAs) with celebrities to send strong anti-smoking messages to youth; and provide school-based programs to educate children through educational materials and smoking prevention activities.
