American Legacy Foundation is a non-profit organization devoted to encourage smokers to quit and prevent teen smoking. Their mission is to build a world where young people can refuse tobacco and anyone can quit. It is a national tobacco prevention and educational organization in the United States that was funded and created by the 1998 Master Settlement Agreement.

American Legacy Foundation develops programs that address the ill-effects of smoking.

It motivates all young people to reject tobacco use, and give everyone access to tobacco cessation and prevention services.This organization focuses more on vulnerable populations like cultural minorities, the less-educated, low-income Americans, and youth.

American Legacy Foundation had conducted a youth smoking prevention campaign known as “truth”, the largest campaign in the country and the only national campaign not directed by the tobacco industry. Truth, launched in February 2000, has become an amazing public health success story. The truth campaign was implemented to inspire youth to stay tobacco free and to expose the social consequences and harmful effects of smoking; the reality about addiction, and the tactics of the tobacco industry. In 2005, this campaign won an Effy award. The campaign also included social networking sites and educational advertising on television regarding the injurious effects of smoking. EX campaign was another successful campaign conducted by the organization. This campaign emphasized on depicting the harmful effects of smoking and teaching smokers various ways to quit.

This organization works through marketing campaigns, youth activism, partnerships, technical assistance, and grants to educate the public about the smoking related diseases. It makes people aware of the fact that smoking will kill them! American Legacy Foundation has been one of the effective and successful organizations in fighting against smoking and preventing it for everyone’s good health.
