Smoking scenes are decreasing in movies

Recent study depicts that there is a significant decline of smoking scenes in movies. Hollywood movies are literally snuffing smoke scenes out of it. Studies suggest that smoking scenes in movies have enormously reduced in past 2 years in order to trim down the impact of smoking on mass population.

According to Stan Glantz, director of the Center for Tobacco Control Research and Education at the University of California, San Francisco, Hollywood has the potential to make movies which will win the hearts of millions even though there is no smoking scene at all. Several anti-smoking organizations and Stan Glantz have been pressurizing movie studios for years to cut down smoking in movies.

There was an increased emphasis to cut out smoking scenes in movies particularly marketed to teens and children.

By and large, the study brought to the notice that throughout 1990s, the amount of on-screen smoking occurrence rose and fell. Later in 2005, the amount increased significantly. According to sources, every year during 1991-2001, 32 billion to 50 billion in-theater tobacco “impressions” were delivered. One person visualizing one smoking incident is defined as an impression.  During past few years, the amount of on-screen smoking incidents has dropped to about 16 billion.
